BEANS AND CABBAGE SOUP

All you need with this is a fresh salad and hot garlic bread to make a full meal.

Ingredients:
2 cups cabbage shredded
1 lb. dry great northern beans
1 cup carrot shredded
½ cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 ½ teaspoon oregano
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp. COLGIN NATURAL HICKORY LIQUID SMOKE
2 cups half and half
salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
In a large dutch oven or a big cooking pot ,combine rinsed beans and 7 cups of water, bring to boil simmer for 5 minutes, let stand for about 1 hour, drain beans and return to pot with 5 cups of water and the cabbage, carrots, onion, smoke and spices. Cover pot and bring to boil, simmer on low heat until beans are done, this should take about 2- 3 hours. Stir occasionally, remove bay leaves, mash beans slightly, slowly add the half and half, mix well add salt and pepper to taste. I like cracked pepper on this dish. Wash all vegetables.
